Sea-spinning is a kind of fishing that requires its practitioners to cast artificial lures in order to catch predatory fish. The name spinning is derived from the word “to spin” that refers to the incessant rotation of the rod’s spinning reel. The continuous casting of artificial lures is performed through the use of a light rod and reel which have noting to do with casting rods and reels that are too heavy and bulky to use for spinning purposes.

Spinning is a technique that was originally used in fresh-water but through some modifications by tackle manufacturers, it is now possible to practice this fascinating hobby in seawater. The Mediterranean Sea is habitat to many predator fish that can be captured through spinning. Malta which is situated in the centre of the Mediterranean is excellently located to reward spinning enthusiasts the possibility to practice spinning all year round. This is due to the presence of many predatory species that inhabit Maltese waters. This sport fishing is becoming popular with many Maltese fishermen but unfortunately, too many use the wrong techniques to lure just one type of game fish – the European Barracuda. Sea-Spinning is certainly more than that!! In conjunction with our online Forum, this website has the aim to enlighten prospective and practicing ‘spinner’s’ about this fascinating hobby and divulge sea-spinning techniques that will aid amateur fishermen to land different fish species throughout the year.
